The dawn of Friday has brought the world to its perfect condition. Perhaps without even a single shred of flaw, perhaps even without human life. There is no trace of human activity, there are no buildings, monuments, roads, or tunnels. Everything is natural; there are high mountains and hills, massive fields of iris, jasmine and lavender, amongst many other floral lands. The ocean reflects the sky above in its purest form, and there are no clouds of dust or of moisture below. It is as if the sky and the ocean have become one, displaying the exact same color. The birds and animals on the ground all sing in their respective voices. They’re living in harmony, perhaps celebrating their world- a world without humans.
Suddenly, from amidst the mountains, a person comes out. A human is seen again, and this person is you. Somehow, you’re the only person on earth, and you do not know what’s happening. The non-human life notices you and tries to eliminate you as well so that their world remains their world only. You run from them, but suddenly a pit comes across your path, and you fall in it. Endlessly going down into blackness. The only thing you can notice is a strange sound.
This sound is eerie, it’s right next to you, it forces you to open your eyes but you’re to scared to do that. But instead of raising fear, it turns obnoxious. Finally, you open your eyes to see your alarm clock ringing. What strange dream! Why would you dream of such an event? Were you watching a movie the previous night or was it just your mind making up unusual scenarios? Totally amazing what a mind can do, isn’t it?
Mind. It’s an enigma. It is the source of all enigmas. It runs the functions of our bodies and leads our emotions. It signals the organs to work a certain way and also possesses the ability to show us images that have never occurred. The possibilities and the power of the mind can perhaps never be fully realized, but one thing is for sure; it is our mind that truly separates us from the animal kingdom as a whole. Because animals can also do what a human can, they do not possess the ability to think as humans do. Perhaps that is why we have seen many geniuses rise among us, and countless discoveries made to date.
When people are asked to explain the human mind, the scientific definition would be to explain its structure and position in our bodies, but explaining its full extent would mean diving into the biggest ocean. They say an ocean is full of secrets, and the human mind can singlehandedly beat the ocean in its competition. So next time someone asks what the mind really is, the answer is quite simple; it is a yet to be fully explored enigma.
